Quality interior prospects are always a hot commodity in any recruiting class and whether they start off with huge accolades or they bloom late you always see a plethora of bigs getting that extra look or additional attention from schools searching for that one piece to possibly put them over the top.  The 2019 class will be no exception to this and one talented prospect who stands to generate a significant amount of attention in the coming months is F/C Jalen Thomas of Detroit Jesuit in Michigan.

Standing 6-10 and weighing close to 235 pounds Thomas passes the look test every time he hits the hardwood.  A strong plus length interior prospect with a 7 foot plus wingspan, Thomas is as intriguing a prospect as there is in that class given his agility, size, and raw skill set.  Translation…the young man is really just starting to scratch the surface of his potential and he’s far from a finished product giving him a huge ceiling and at the same time making him a must watch prospect in the 2019 class over the next 12 months.

Thomas has solid instincts on both ends of the court making him a solid rebounding prospect given his size and length.  He can score with either hand and he can face up to the basket and finish from 12-15 feet.  Still developing his post game, Thomas can finish with his back to the basket and he has the ability to collect lot of rebounds for put backs as well given his size and length.  Defensively he’s agile, he moves well, and he has plus length giving him the ability to be a solid interior defender who can alter and challenge shots with consistency. He runs the floor well, he’s a solid athlete, and he’s a solid passing big as well adding more clay to the mold.  A late blooming big who’s already collecting attention, Thomas could become a huge story over the next 8-12 months as he has plenty of clay to mold into a high caliber impact talent at the next level with hard work and continued development.

After a strong spring and summer campaign on the NY2LA Basketball Association circuit, Thomas was recently named the Top Big Man for the Class of 2019 prospects in attendance at this fall’s NY2LA Sports Futures Camp.  Currently holding offers from Toledo, Kent State, Miami (OH), Buffalo, Detroit, Xavier, and Ferris State, Thomas heads into his junior year as one to watch in the 2019 class both regionally and nationally and you can expect him to generate a lot of attention and see his recruiting trail fill up substantially in the coming months.

Thomas played with the R.E.A.C.H. Legends during the grassroots travel season.
