Big start to the NY2LA Grassroots Invitational In Louisville today. With one last tournament of the spring season, a great deal of players brought their best game. Here is just a small sample of today’s standouts.

Garwey Dual – 2023 – G – George Hill All Indy

Dual has been one of the biggest stock risers in the entire nation this spring and continued his tremendous play today. The junior excelled on both ends of the floor over his two games. He moves well with the ball and has great moves off the dribble to get to the rim with ease. With his length and athleticism, he is a very tough perimeter defender. If he continues how he played today, expect the offers to continue to roll in.

Tim Franks – 2024 – SG – Chapman Basketball

This spring we continue to see this 16U Chapman Gold team shine with different players performing at exceptionally well and this game it was Tim Franks turn. In their tough overtime victory, Franks scored 22 points. He did most of his damage with his smooth jumper from deep hitting four threes, but also showed the ability to play off the dribble and get to the basket. There’s so much to like about his game with his size, skill set, and IQ.

Mekhi Cooper – 2023 – PG – Illinois Flight

Cooper was near dominant today with his play. He had 28 points, just in the first half. He has a pure jumper and was hitting them off the catch and dribble. Much more than just a shooter, Cooper was playing very well on the attack getting all the way to the bucket plus distributing it. Even as a very skilled scorer, he is a willing passer that moves the ball well.

Teagan Moore – 2023 – G/F – Griffin Elite

Moore was one of the most impressive players of the entire tournament today. Not only did he score 24 points against a very good MidPro team but did so efficiently. He has some size at 6’6” and a solid build. He plays well off the dribble using his strength to get into the paint and finish but also shot it well spotting up from three. Moore has plenty of tools for the next level.

Matt Schmainda – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Swing

One of a few players on this 17U Swing team that stood out today. The junior guard is such a consistent player with his well-rounded game. While he does so much to impact the game, he impressed today the most with his scoring, going for 17 points in one of his games today. He was at his best attacking the basket, using his strength to power his way there but also knocked down a couple threes.
