With the opening days of the 2019 Generation Next Basketball Association Championships taking place with great effort from so many players, and with the competition as fierce as it turned out to be, a number of young hoop hopefuls were making their presences known. Several players made impacts in a variety of ways for their teams and also were able to score the basketball some too, helping their teams compete. Below is a recap of some players who helped their teams and with their play, got the attention of those watching, growing their stock for the upcoming summer and the years to come.
STOCK BOOSTERS
CHARLIE ALLEN – 2024 – G – GAIN ELITE
Allen made some nice plays for Gain throughout one of the games Friday. The young guard was strong with the ball and did a nice job attacking gaps in the defense to get to the hoop where he was able to score a few buckets and otherwise knock down a couple jumpers. He also hit a free throw in the game and finished with 13 points and 3 assists.
SEAN BROWN – 2024 – G/F – TEAM TEN JABARI PARKER
Brown had a couple solid outings for TTJP on Saturday as he made plays on offense and was good crashing the defensive rebounds. The developing wing prospect was aggressive going to get rebounds and he got a couple steals as well. Offensively, Brown showed he can score at the rim and also hit a couple mid-range shots pulling up over defenders. He had 14 points one game and 10 in another on the second day of the event.
JOSH FRIDMAN – 2024 – G – ALL-IN
Fridman played very stead for All-In and continued a good spring and early summer season for him with his play on Saturday. Fridman made some nice shots during the game, scoring a couple times off the dribble but also making his lay-ups. He also knocked down a three-pointer with good confidence, and finished the game with 13 points to help his team.
CHRISTO GIANNOPOULOS – 2023 – PG – WI BLIZZARD
Giannopoulos had a really good overall game for the Blizzard in a tough game Saturday, and a lot of the production came in the second half as he went on a run to help put his team in the game. The quick young guard got up the floor in a hurry often and then found openings to drill 3 three-point shots and also attacked the basket a couple times, once for a good finish and another time got him to the free throw line where he made both free throws, accounting for 13 of his team’s points to lead the way.
ARHMAN LEWIS – 2023 – PG – WI DYNASTY
Lewis has had a great spring and he continued to show his skill set in another tough game Saturday evening. While running up against a tough team with some good length, Lewis was able to use his handles and his shifty quickness to get a few nice looks both from the perimeter and getting to the basket. He converted on a few opportunities driving the ball and finishing at the hoop or with a soft floating jumper over the defender, and hit 2 three-pointers, as well as sinking 2 free throws, finishing with 12 points.
BRISTOL LEWIS – 2023 – G – QUAD CITY
Lewis did a nice job on Saturday in impacting the game with more than just his scoring, and working to get his team involved throughout the contest. He was good with the ball in his hands and working off the dribble to get to open looks for shots, where he made a number of shots from mid-range and in, hit a free throw and was otherwise active in dishing out to teammates for scores, winding up with 13 points and 4 assists at the conclusion of the game.
CARMELLO MCNEAL – 2023 – SG – HOWARD PULLEY
McNeal put together some good games over the first couple days, including one game where he was scoring going to the rim, hitting the outside shot, and also attacking the glass for rebounds. Also, McNeal got in passing lanes and had a couple steals in the game, to go with an 11-point effort and 6 rebounds.
PARKER MCQUIN – 2024 – G/F – PLAYMAKERS
McQuin had a nice overall game for the Playmakers, really setting a tone for his team with his aggressive, but controlled play. He played strong when he attacked the basket and was also making good cuts and reads to the hoop to catch and finish, also getting to the line to convert a free throw opportunity. McQuin had 13 points in the game.
TY MINOR – 2023 – SF – IL IRISH
Minor played really well for the Irish in a couple different facets of the game. Defensively, Minor was active in the middle and helping protect the middle, while cleaning up on the glass to prevent opponent’s second chance opportunities. Offensively, Minor knocked down a couple three-pointers, made a couple shots around the hoop and converted 3-of-4 free throw chances, good for 13 points.
MILES NATION – 2023 – F – WI PHENOMS
Nation played with good energy, and did a nice job using his length to make an impact on both offense and defense. Helping the Phenoms pull out a good victory, Nation did well finding spots to cut or slash to the hoop and finished well around the basket off the catch. He converted 2 free throws into points as well, and was consistent both halves with his production and effort, finishing with 12 points and 7 rebounds.
CHASE NORTON – 2023 – G/F – CHAPMAN BASKETBALL
Norton made a number of plays for his team in helping them compete in a tough game Saturday. The young guard/wing hit some big shots, including a pair of three’s in the game, and was also able to knock down a couple free throws. Norton finished up with 14 points.
ROBERT PETERS – 2023 – F – CREAM CITY’S CHOSEN
Peters played with good energy for Cream City on Saturday evening, making some tough plays on both ends of the floor. He pulled down a number of rebounds defensively and got some deflections to help create turnovers for his team. Then on offense, Peters was able to finish plays around the basket with good touch around the rim and then got to the free throw line several times, to bury 6 free throws. He had 14 points in the game.
CONNOR ROFFERS – 2024 – G – WI SWING
Roffers played a solid overall game for the Swing, and made some plays on both offense and defense for his team. He made some baskets attacking the hoop, buried a three-pointer with a quick and nice release, and also was strong enough with the ball to get himself contact and foul calls, where he converted 3 free throw attempts, and ultimately finished with a team-high 14 points.
QUINN SCHIMANSKI – 2025 – G/F – ALL-IN
Schimanski had a steady game and was impactful on both ends of the court with his effort and energy. He played with good activity on the defensive end where he pressured the ball and got in the mix on the rebounds, and then on offense he showed a nicely developing and versatile game. He was able to score both inside and outside, knocking down 2 three-pointers, and then also hit 3 of 4 free throws. Schimanski ended up with 13 points overall in the game.
