Always the toughest position for college coaches to find each year; post players. Here are five big men that have all the tools to be successful players at Division 2, NAIA, or Division 3 schools.
Colin Crothers – 2020 – PF – Benet Academy (IL)
Old school under the rim, high academic big man that knows how to play. Crafty 6’7” post that moves well around the paint with the ball to get good scoring opportunities. Very active without the ball to get good position on the block and then shows good post moves once he gets the ball. Has nice touch around the basket and expanding range with his jumper.
Solomon Gustafson – 2020 – C – Rock Island HS (IL)
Just an all-around solid big man in the paint on both ends. An effective 6’8” post with a good frame and length. Has a big motor and moves well around the paint. Rebounds at a high rate on both ends of the court. Active defender that plays tough post defense and shown the ability to be a big shot blocking presence. Scores well in the paint on rolls, put backs, and with his back to the basket. Able to finish through contact well.
Cody Soik – 2020 – PF/C – New Berlin West HS (WI)
Tough and skilled 6’7” post that has grown his game well recently. Scores the ball well on the block with some strong post moves. Perimeter skills have continued to progress of being able to shoot from the outside and handle the basketball. With his strong frame and some agility he is able to rebound at a high rate and be a solid rim protector. Already has a good skill level but an even higher ceiling.
Alex Stauffer – 2020 – PF – Northridge HS (IN)
Talented 6’8” forward that scores the ball effectively in a variety of ways. Smooth spot up shooter from three, can put the ball on the floor to get to the rim, and nice moves to score with his back to the basket. With all his offense abilities combined with his height and strength he is very difficult to defend. Solid defender as well with his size and mobility.
Elijah Vander Velden – 2020 – PF/C – Wabash HS (IN)
Lengthy and active 6’8” post. Not the strongest of big men but plays with plenty of energy to make up for it. With his aggressiveness, he is able to rack up rebounds and get easy points in the paint. Also scores well spotting up from the mid-range and three, rolling to the hoop, and over both shoulders posting up. Solid rim protector with his length, height, and aggressiveness. High ceiling player that is just scratching his potential.
