While the 2021 and even the 2022 continues to blaze its trail through the college recruiting ranks right now, the incoming freshman class is set to make their debut at the high school level at some point this season and one talented 2024 prospect who is front and center in that conversion is James Brown of St. Rita in Illinois.
Long regarded by NY2LA Sports as one of the premier up and coming prospects in the 2024 class nationally, Brown firmly cemented that status again this fall with a number of high caliber performances including a Co-MVP effort at the prestigious NY2LA Sports Futures Camp in October. Equipped with a long plus length 6-9 205 pound frame, Brown is a classic impact big who uses his size and length to alter and block shots, clean the glass, and finish with either hand around the basket consistently. Still developing physically, Brown looks and feels the part of a high major impact big already with a future that could and should project pass the college ranks into the next level provided he continues to put in the work on and off the court.
The talented up and coming big has already collected early offers from Providence, DePaul, Northern Illinois, Howard, Siena, and Western Illinois while a laundry list of mid and high major programs are already showing interest. Obviously there’s a long way to go but Brown is a legitimate top 10 caliber prospect in the 2024 class nationally at this stage and he has early tabs on the next big thing out of Chicago. With a recent history in Illinois of bigs that includes the likes of Anthony Davis, Jahlil Okafor, Frank Kaminski, etc. James Brown is definitely one to keep close tabs on moving forward.
Brown plays with the Mac Irvin Fire program during the grassroots travel season.
