As one of the strongest groups of the GNBA Championships, the 12U level had tremendous talent in games both Saturday and Sunday. As well to the top performers, here are several more players that brought their top game for the spring finale.
Bryce Bell – 2028 – PG – Road 2 Greatness
Even at a young age Bell showed off a very nice array of point guard skills. He handles the ball well, is quick with the ball, has good vision, and was often getting into the paint to make plays. Not only did he get all the way to the basket and finish but is also a skilled distributor as he passes very well on the move to rack up the assists.
Tyler Chlan – 2028 – G – Kessel Heat
In the one game I saw of Chlan he greatly impressed going for 17 points. More than just a scorer however, he showed a nice ability to run the point effectively and passes it well. He is a good shot maker that can hit them from all over and was doing so with defenders right on him but also added some buckets getting all the way to the basket.
Jake Jaeger – 2028 – F – Team GRIII
Jaeger had some stellar games this tournament including a 21-point game that got his team into the platinum bracket. He is a versatile scorer around the basket doing plenty of damage on put backs as he was so aggressive going after offensive boards but also scored rolling to the bucket, cuts, and dump offs. With his length and toughness, Jaeger was one of the top rebounders in the 12U field, finished everything inside, and played big in the defensive paint.
Charlie Lappin – 2028 – PG – Man Up Basketball
Lappin is such an effective floor general with the ball in his hands who can do so much. He moves so well with the ball and has great quickness to gets by defenders with ease to get plenty of paint touches. Not only was Lappin often finishing around the basket but also shoots it well off the dribble with range.
MJ Johnson – 2028 – G – Illinois Flight
Johnson is an active guard with good abilities on the offensive end. Not only does he play well attacking the basket but also has a good jumper from the outside. He is quick with the ball in his hands with a good first step just blowing by defenders to get plenty of paint touches. A crafty finisher that showed off a nice floater to score right over defenders or pulling up in the mid-range.
Brady Pettigrew – 2028 – SG – Chi-Town Bulldogs
Another impressive piece from this platinum championship team. He has good positional size and length with a nice overall game. Whatever was needed from him, Pettigrew got it done. While his team has several quality scorers, he still had his breakout games, with a 20-point game and 14-points in the first half of the title game to grab his team a big early lead. Scoring he is at his best playing off the dribble getting to the basket with his good moves and ability to finish all around the paint.
Landon Reiner – 2028 – PG – Powerhouse Sports
Reiner showed tremendous ability on the offensive end. He was most effective with the ball in his hands. A good playmaker that moves well with the ball with strong handle and was often getting all the way to the basket but also is a good decision maker knowing when to dish it out. Also, Reiner shot the ball well spotting up on the perimeter.
Anthony Stawczk – 2028 – G – Illinois Flight
The guard was such an impactful player for the Flight on both ends of the floor. He is very active and quick to be a big piece of his team’s full court pressure, wreaking havoc on opposing guards forcing plenty of turnovers. On the other end he plays well off the dribble getting paint touches quickly accelerating and some nice moves slipping past defenders. He does a nice job of driving to distribute the ball but can also get to the basket himself and hit jumpers off the dribble.
